Oh goody. Nosotros become to accept the argument about riding on the sidewalk or taking your chances in traffic once more.

sammyk: Oh goody. We get to have the argument almost riding on the sidewalk or taking your chances in traffic over again.

At that place's no argument, if y'all can't ride in the street keep your toys in the 1000.

This article unfairly characterizes Minneapolis as a adept place to live. Please stay away. We hate bikers. The unemployment is at 40%. Every fifth person that enters the urban center gets killed by a gang. The beer sucks and there's goose egg expert to eat. Equally a whole we are uneducated and lack culture.

Please don't come here. By the way, it gets cold in the winter.

I'm surprised Philadelphia isn't on that listing. Nosotros have a seriously not bad bike trail organisation hither. Honestly, idea the wheel lanes in Center City would be more of a pain in the ass when you're driving your car, just they work well. (and even ameliorate if you lot're on a wheel)

Somehow, that just wasn't what I was expecting in TFA.

notice at that place's no FL cities in that list.

Is this the thread where entitled drivers who don't know the traffic laws and don't follow them or how roads are paid for biatch about cyclists and cyclists who do know the traffic laws and don't follow them biatch about drivers?

/cyclist in Minneapolis so I'k getting a kicking
//grabs some popcorn

b2theory: Past the fashion, it gets common cold in the winter.

Very cold, and there'due south a lot of snow. Makes information technology kind of hard to bicycle.

sammyk: Oh goody. We get to take the argument virtually riding on the sidewalk or taking your chances in traffic again.

The sidewalk?

Binghamton is great for riding bikes. We take a big park that has swings, an crawly see-saw, and nosotros are famous for our collection of antique merry-get-rounds. Yous can ride your bikes with all your friends so go on the swings, and and then they have an ice cream truck and it'south got screwballs.

sammyk: Oh goody. We get to accept the argument about riding on the sidewalk or taking your chances in traffic again.

No statement needed. Near US cities treat bikers(serious, long distance biking) as part of street traffic. While assuasive kids, college students, or non-serious bikers a pass if on sidewalks.

Frankly, it doesn't thing. If you are a dick driver and so y'all will be a dick cyclist. Near of the serious, responsible cyclist in my town stick to a road that is less busy and has good sight lines for drivers to see and react.

Consider the source - NPR

If you're a tree huggin', vegitarian, progressive, you'll probably concur. If yous're a tree growing, meat eating, capitalist, y'all'll probably disagree.

gingerjet: Is this the thread where entitled drivers who don't know the traffic laws and don't follow them or how roads are paid for biatch near cyclists and cyclists who do know the traffic laws and don't follow them biatch about drivers?

/cyclist in Minneapolis so I'thou getting a kick

Where would I notice some of those?

b2theory: This article unfairly characterizes Minneapolis as a skillful place to live. Please stay away. We hate bikers. The unemployment is at twoscore%. Every fifth person that enters the city gets killed by a gang. The beer sucks and at that place'due south nothing good to eat. As a whole we are uneducated and lack culture.

Please don't come hither. Past the way, it gets common cold in the wintertime.

So you wont mind if we transport all of our convicts in that location? Sugariness.

I'yard surprised that a metropolis with such a astringent winter topped the list.

sammyk: Oh goody. We become to accept the argument well-nigh riding on the sidewalk or taking your chances in traffic again.

That'southward what we do here. We have the aforementioned 6 FARKuments over and over and over:

* Which beer is the best
* Why young children shouldn't travel on airplanes
* President Obama rocks. No wait, he sucks.
* Should bicyclists ride on the street, or on the sidewalk?
* Linux is a superior operating system to Windows. Discuss.

I'chiliad sure I missed a few.

Fuggin Bizzy: sammyk: Oh goody. We go to have the argument near riding on the sidewalk or taking your chances in traffic again.

That'south what we do hither. We have the aforementioned six FARKuments over and over and over:

* Which beer is the all-time
* Why young children shouldn't travel on airplanes
* President Obama rocks. No look, he sucks.
* Should bicyclists ride on the street, or on the sidewalk?
* Linux is a superior operating system to Windows. Discuss.

I'm certain I missed a few.

Breastfeeding and spanking

/maybe someone could post example pictures?

Jon iz teh kewl: find there's no FL cities in that list.

I dunno, Miami is pretty gay.

I ride bicycles, motorcycles and drive cars. So I have an interest in all of these things working together. In each form of transportation I find complete idiots and then just about any arguments are invalid. Everybody is an idiot out at that place, me included. Get used to it.

Peeves:
Bicyclists that don't obey for traffic signals.
Motorcyclists that weave through traffic.
Drivers that don't pay attention.

Not surprised that Dallas and Houston were not on the list, merely Austin has a long bike history.

Actually, it will quickly develop into a thread in which people who convey themselves about by any conceivable means will castigate those who convey themselves near by any other means.

Screw Minneapolis, Eden prairie is the place to exist

thepayner: Screw Minneapolis, Eden prairieGreen Acres is the place to be

Joafu: Nogale: I'thousand surprised that a city with such a severe winter topped the list.

Awww, jeez, that's all I need for cyclists here in Des Moines to be encouraged to attempt those and cycle in the winter.

Des Moines recently cut a major street downwards from 4 lanes to 3 with added wheel lanes and the petty green warriors have been insufferable always since.

you have pee hands: gingerjet: Is this the thread where entitled drivers who don't know the traffic laws and don't follow them or how roads are paid for biatch nearly cyclists and cyclists who exercise know the traffic laws and don't follow them biatch about drivers?

/cyclist in Minneapolis then I'm getting a kick

Where would I notice some of those?

Non in Seattle, or maybe i should qualify that with those that think the rules apply to them.

I dear the Twin Cities. I was going to write that earlier, only driving home I had to slam on the brakes to avoid a cyclist ignoring a stop sign.

The first caller on this Talk of the Nation show nigh cyclists is hysterical. Even the hosts seem quite uncomfortable letting him talk.

Link

As a cyclist who well-nigh got hit by a turning motorcar while I was completely stopped at a cease sign yesterday, I'm not getting a boot &c.

gingerjet: cyclists who practice know the traffic laws and don't follow them biatch about drivers?

And yet you called the ignorant drivers entitled?

BunkyBrewman: I'grand surprised Philadelphia isn't on that list. We have a seriously corking bike trail organization here. Honestly, thought the wheel lanes in Center City would be more than of a pain in the donkey when you're driving your car, but they piece of work well. (and even meliorate if you're on a bike)

What cycle lanes in Heart Metropolis are you lot referring to?

I find bikes aren't an effect when given their own lane to travel in. A few jerks cause minor annoyances, but I'k sure the feeling is mutual. It's when we're expected to "share" the aforementioned lane and a biker takes advantage of a driver not wanting to kill them or a commuter takes reward of bikers not wanting to die that the existent problems offset.

LordPomposity: As a cyclist who nearly got hit by a turning car while I was completely stopped at a stop sign yesterday, I'thousand non getting a kicking &c.

As a motorist that had to brake hard yesterday to avoid striking a bicyclist that abruptly cut across my lane in a 45 MPH zone, I...await. Look. You know what? You expect awfully familiar.

/What? Don't look at me similar that. You believed his cock-and-bull story!

Glenford: [www.3feetplease.com prototype 233x200]

I concur. Only that works both ways, friend.

you have pee hands: Where would I discover some of those?

Considering how many cyclists I know who seem to exist able to recite the entire drivers manual from memory while running a red calorie-free - I recall you will notice them all over.

I tin understand NYC because it must exist farking impossible to have a motorcar there and the subways are horrendous.

Fuggin Bizzy: That'due south what nosotros do here. We have the aforementioned half dozen FARKuments over and over and over:

* Which beer is the best
* Why young children shouldn't travel on airplanes
* President Obama rocks. No wait, he sucks.
* Should bicyclists ride on the street, or on the sidewalk?
* Linux is a superior operating organization to Windows. Discuss.

Most of these aren't really arguments:

* Farkers like to contribute to lists of good beers; most agree that factory-made American lagers suck.

* Everyone without modest children and a healthy [in every sense of that word] majority of those with agree that young children should not wing unless fully sedated.

* Nobody really believes Obama rocks; most admit that he sucks, while many pretend, without fooling anyone, that there is a better alternative floating somewhere in the cesspool of American politicians.

* Bicycles should ride on the street unless equipped with training wheels, in which case the sidewalk is appropriate.

* Using Linux to emulate Windows to argue about Linux on Fark is like chopping off your right paw and using it to jerk yourself off with your left.

In that location, no more than arguments. Fark is whole again.

b2theory: This article unfairly characterizes Minneapolis as a proficient place to live. Please stay away. We hate bikers. The unemployment is at xl%. Every fifth person that enters the city gets killed by a gang. The beer sucks and there's nothing skilful to swallow. As a whole we are uneducated and lack culture.

Delight don't come here. Past the fashion, it gets cold in the winter.

No, it characterizes Minneapolis as a place with a lot of lakes and bike trails. Don't worry, nobody is packing up their shiat and relocating to Minneapolis.

csi_yellowknife: I honey the Twin Cities. I was going to write that before, but driving dwelling house I had to slam on the brakes to avoid a cyclist ignoring a finish sign.

And I had to dive off my wheel the other day to avoid some idiot driving going the wrong way on a one way. Idiots exist on both sides.

If just the bicyclists would move to florida, we could kill ii retards with i 1995 Lincoln Towncar. Think of the savings!

Ah, Portland bike culture, where the weak are killed and eaten.

bmr68: Not surprised that Dallas and Houston were not on the list, but Austin has a long cycle history.

Bruce Todd, one-time mayor of Austin, was about killed riding bicycle on a road congenital for cars..

Fuggin Bizzy: sammyk: Oh goody. We go to have the argument about riding on the sidewalk or taking your chances in traffic again.

That'south what we do hither. Nosotros have the same six FARKuments over and over and over:

* Which beer is the all-time
* Why young children shouldn't travel on airplanes
* President Obama rocks. No look, he sucks.
* Should bicyclists ride on the street, or on the sidewalk?
* Linux is a superior operating system to Windows. Discuss.

Trayvon.

*Runs away giggling*

Madison has gone a bit overboard with bikes. Downtown/campus has always been a maze of one-way streets, just they recently started putting in half-lanes for bikes going the other fashion. If you lot don't catch the inscrutable signage or street-paint warning y'all nigh it, information technology becomes a bit dangerous when bikes are coming into the intersection from the wrong way. If there' snow on the footing I judge yous simply assume they all have two lanes for bikes and have your chances. At least there are fewer bikers in the wintertime to potentially get hit.

Just the existent trouble with traffic on campus is students on mopeds. A cyclist typically knows to continue to the side of the route, but students treat mopeds like bikes when it's convenient (riding on sidewalks and cut through grass), and care for them like motorcycles when information technology'southward convenient (driving right downwards the middle of the lane at a summit speed of 19 mph). So they'll come right over the curb from the sidewalk and jam themselves straight into traffic. When you see one wipe out on one of these maneuvers, typically the get-go thing you hear is adulation.

Almost every drive domicile from work I watch the cars alee cut a corner directly beyond a bike lane. As a general dominion what dimwit cyclists and drivers share is the cyclist is primarily the only one at risk.

I'k not a fan of urban cycling but I would be If we had cycle lanes. And i'chiliad probably not alone on this. You are either have to be a) an asshat to survive in built upwards urban areas b) have a expiry wish. I imagine many more than people would have to the streets on their bikes if the streets were more cycle accessible.

Having traveled near, I've seen the best and the worst of urban wheel integration. Copenhegen Denmark was wonderful. Seemed like all the master thoroughfares had seperate bike routes, lighting and signals. I'm sure this was an expensive suggestion only bike traffic was pretty heavy so none of it went to waste. The Middle East was terrible. From the casual observer, it appeared that it was every man for himself. Tokyo had heavy bike traffic but not a lot of seperate paths. What saves bicyclists there is that the larger vehicle is always responsible for the smaller vehicles nigh them- there would be no way to win in court if it were man vs car no matter how drunk, impaired, or irresponsible the cyclist was-- so they tend to try not to bump into the cyclists there.

Get some bike routes out there and maybe I'll give it another become. Too damned erstwhile to negotiate my way through bad drivers and too much else to live for!

And sitting back laughing at all of ya'll are the long distance runners. Oh, how cute, ya'll have to take follow the road or your machine is useless.
